Permisions on images, articles and text element are based on permission on folders where this content resides.
IMPORTANT: Pay a special attention on denials! If a user belongs to more groups, certain permissions may be denied on the level of another group and if the group has a higher priority of the one you're looking at, you won't see the denial, but it will be effective. Note also that denials may exist on the personal level too.
The recommended settings depend on your copy flow. There will be surely the folders where you want to deny access to some users, while granting to other limited or all permissions. See more in the blocks "Articles and text elements permissions" and "Images permissions". |
See the "About presets" section in the Edit folder permissions topic. |
For articles and text elements Fred4 manages four levels of permissions: •Non-readable Permissions: no Read Normal, no Read Content, and no Read Special – i.e. typically articles and text elements in folders with no access at all. You cannot link such text elements and articles to a page. You cannot open pages containing links to non-readable text elements and articles. Attempts to open such pages fail with the error: 'Frame linked to a text that cannot be read (insufficient permissions).' •Read-only Permissions: Read Normal, Read Content, and Read Special – i.e. typically articles and text elements in folders with at least the View preset selected. You can open and print pages containing links to such text elements and articles, but you cannot edit the text elements in page or modify the articles – error message 'The article XXXX cannot be modified: insufficient permissions.' You cannot change the text elements format or their geometry in any way – e.g. modify the linked frames, link/unlink frames – error message 'Geometry and format of text 'XXXXX' cannot be modified: insufficient permissions,' •Read-only with modifiable geometry Permissions: Read Normal, Read Content, Read Special and Write Special – i.e. typically articles and text elements in folders with at least the Send to preset selected. You can open pages containing such text elements and articles. You can modify their geometry (e.g. link/unlink frames, modify frames sizes) and formats. You can lock and unlock the text elements content (Layout|Lock content and Layout|Unlock content menu entries of the page designer). You cannot edit article text elements, copy-fit them – error message 'The text XXXX cannot be modified: insufficient permissions.’ You cannot add/remove text elements from the articles. Caveat 1: when linking to an article a frame of a type that does not have a corresponding text in the article (e.g. when linking an ‘Head’ frame to an article that does not have a ‘Head’ text) Fred4 tries to create a new text - in this case the linking will fail. Caveat 2: when linking or unlinking frames from texts that have been copy-fitted Fred4 tries to eliminate the copy-fitting, and so in this case the linking/unlinking will fail. •Read-write Permissions: Place in Normal, Read Normal, Write Normal, Read Content, Write Content, Read Special, and Write Special – i.e. typically articles and texts in folders with at least the Edit in preset selected. All operations are possible: creation of new texts and articles, linking/unlinking, editing the texts, adding or removing texts from the articles, changing formats etc. |
Fred4 manages two levels of permissions for images: •Non-readable Permissions: no Read Normal nor Read Content – i.e. typically images in folders with no access at all. You cannot place such images on a page. You cannot open a pages containing non-readable images. Attempts to open such pages fail with the error: 'Element linked to the editorial image with id XXXX, that cannot be read (insufficient permissions).' •Readable Permissions: both Read Normal and Read Content – i.e. typically images in folders with at least the View permissions set. You can place, resize and crop such images on page. You can open pages containing such images. Caveat: the crop is the one in page, to be able to physically crop the image file or replace a dummy image with a real one more permissions are needed. |
The previously explained behavior is introduced with the build 1.4.1452. This change may require re-import or editing of your schema if you were already using the version 1.4 but an earlier build, or any other version if your schema is custom: part of the changes are in GN4Editorial.xsd. Therefore, open your custom GN4Editorial.xsd (if any) and compare it with the standard GN4Editorial.xsd. Apply all necessary changes. |
