The pages of the target edition need to have two or more layers: at least one editorial, and one ads layers.
Important
•If the page has more editorial layers, the first editorial layer is to be used for the automated page make-up. Other editorial layers will not be modified by the automated page make-up, but their content would be taken into consideration when calculating the free space on page.
On the following screenshot, the "Contents" part is on the Eds2 layer, which is the second editorial layer. Therefore, the software will use the 1 Eds layer (that is the first editorial layer) for the automated page make-up, but will use only the right four columns.
•The first editorial layer must not be locked for the user who performs the automated page make-up.
•The first editorial layer must be either empty, or must have a complete editorial hole full of shapes. That is because when the software finds any object on the editorial layer, it would consider it "complete with shapes" and won't place other shapes on it.
•The first editorial layer will be automatically selected as the default one, if in the layers list the editorial layer is the first one, or if you enable the auto-select of the first editorial layer as explained in Force the first editorial layer as the default on opening page.
