To understand the tool settings, we should remind you on two ways of using library objects:
1. | Replacement of current selection on the page with a library object |
2. | Placement of a library object on the page while no object is selected |
If you drag a library object over selection on the page, the Fred4 will prompt for the confirmation to replace the currently selected objects. During the replacement, both the tool attributes of the library object, and the structure of replaced objects determine the position, dimensions and structure of the final result. However, other automatic actions may be performed too, such as text or image creation, or linking. Effects when placing library objects over selection (replacing the selection): •Resizing of library object to the overall dimensions of the replaced object. This is handled by the appropriate settings of the Attributes for dimensions and position. •Optional repositioning, including snapping to the closest grid. •Optional automatic runaround. •A prompt to create a text or to select an article, or to link automatically to the current article, or predefined action. See Tool attributes for linking local texts and replacing images. •Automatic prompt to create a dummy image, or to select an image. The major benefit of replacement by library objects is that a user either defines a simple area on page, e.g. a single text frame, and then applies on it a selected library object, or replaces an existing object with another one. The object will get the area dimensions, and populate it with a predefined structure, e.g. headline, legs, place for image box and similar, depending on its type. |
If a library object is double-clicked while nothing is selected on the page, or if you do not confirm the replacement, in that case, the library object is just placed on the page. During the placement, the tool attributes determine the position of the object. However, other automatic actions may be performed too, such as text or image creation, or linking. Effects when placing library objects: •Repositioning, including snapping to the closest grid •Optional automatic runaround (if the object is placed over existing objects) •Automatic prompt to create a text or to select a text, or to link automatically to the current text •Automatic prompt to create a image, or to select a image |
