You need to customize the new installed GN4 system after you installed it, for the following reasons:
•The system out-of-the box is based on the sample configurations that are not necessarily appropriate for your publications.
•The default users in a new database are just few, to let you enter in the system and test it quickly - you need to add all your domain editorial users to the GN4.
•The structure of content folders contains only few basic folders - you need to create your custom structure, suitable for your production and copy flow. The same applies on permissions etc.
•The system default publication (title) is called Globe and its purpose is to let you test the system. You need to create your own titles (one for each publication).
•The system default typography is called Default and its purpose is to let you test the system. If you have just one publication, you can use the Default typography (do not rename it though) and adapt it to your needs; or, create new typographies, suitable for your publications - typically, one typography for each publication except in case that more publications share the same fonts and styles.
•Default installed fonts (just few of them) are surely not what you need in your publications.
•Default available article elements may not be sufficient to you - you may need more of them or different.
•Default attributes of objects may not be sufficient for you - you may need different or more attributes.
•Many more aspects of the system configuration is left on mere defaults - to allow the system just to run, but it is not adapted to your needs. Configuring may include creating copyflows, categories, keywords, changing of measurement system, creating publishing and extract destinations etc.
About order of operations
The GN4 system set-up requires that steps are performed in the specific order. For some of them, the required order is not absolutely strict.
For example, although you can add elements to the GN4 schema also later, when production already started, it is reasonable to set it up correctly before you start to do other things.
On the other hand, you need to select the measurement system, typography, fonts and titles before starting to create edition templates, as you need to have fonts ready before starting to work on typographical styles.
This chapter shows you the correct order of steps and provides links to step-by-step procedures.
