All text in Fred4 exists only inside containers called frames.
An empty frame by default appears as a rectangle (first from left), but it can take an ellipse shape, or can be an irregularly shaped frame (bottom figure, first from left).
About frame color
Frame color is typically blue, which marks an empty frame, or a frame with fitting text. You can personalize color of frame borders, either for fitting, or for non-fitting (typically red).
About frame labels
A selected empty frame, linked to a text, appears with the link label in the upper left corner of every frame (top figure, 4th from left).
Frames, linked to article elements, have a mandatory type. The type label is displayed in the bottom right corner of every frame (top figure, last frame). The format label shows the format assigned to the frame
If the type and format labels are not displayed, on the View menu, select Type or Format.
In irregularly shaped frames, text follows the shape (bottom figure, second frame). The frames can also be cut-in for text wrapping (bottom figure, third frame), or wrapped dynamically (bottom figure, last frame)
