The Grid tab of the preferences dialog box on the Pages main tab in Fred4 contains grid and guides preferences.

All the preferences are personal (per-user) setting. Click the preference name for the further information (where available).

Preference	Description
Placement	Select how to stack master guides: back, before master, or in front of all. Recommended: Front of master.
Show, Columns etc.	Display column guides and baseline guides. Recommended: tick Columns, untick Modules.
Locked	Select, to keep the layer guides locked (recommended).
User defined guides, master guides	Select whether user defined guides or master guides are dashed, and select their color.
Tolerance	Leave 0 to snap to columns and guides from any distance, or any other value to snap only if the object is as close to the guide. Recommended: 9
Snap also to objects	Recommended: ticked
Rule color	The snapping to objects use that color for the temporary guide.
Consider object borders	Tick, to align to the external edge of the thick borders.
