It is recommended, on the first access to the Pages main tab in Fred4, to enable and configure the snap-to zone (Grid snapping tolerance) for easier moving and scaling page objects on a page.
The default value is: disabled.
The recommended value is: enabled, with tolerance of 10 or 20.
Warning: if the Grid snapping tolerance remains on the default 0 value, it will not be possible to place objects off-grid. Therefore, instead to disable snap – that is a bad idea resulting in an inconsistent and disordered page layout that creates many problems later on and not recommended - define the snap zone in the personal preference, setting it to a low number of pixels. This provides a snapping to guides only when your object is closer to a guide or grid-stop than the specified value.
To enable and configure snap-to zone (Grid snapping tolerance)
1.On the Edit menu of the Pages main tab while not editing text, click Preferences.
2.On the Grid tab, under Grid snapping, in Tolerance, enter the distance in pixels on which snapping to guides should become effective.
Notes
•The snapping distance is sensitive on zoom level, i.e. it will be smaller on close zooms and larger on distant zooms.
•Enter 0 to increase snap zone to distance between guides and to force snap to guides always.
•If you enter a value smaller than 20, in the full-page view, the snapping apparently won't work.
About saving preferences in database
When you click OK, the preferences are updated in the memory and applied right-on. GN4 will store the preference in the database when you exit application. Anyway, should your GN4 crash or exit in any other abnormal way, the preference will not be stored in database, and you will have to repeat the previously described steps.
This preference is stored in the Editorial_SystemUserConfig for the securityRef corresponding to the user name. To display that configuration, open EdAdmin4, click Client Applications, expand the search pane in the left sidebar, in the Name enter editorial, and in the securityRef select the name of the user. Double-click the Editorial_SystemUserConfig to open the content. Locate the preference by name.
