You can download the selected content on your workstation as a copy or for editing it locally.
It make sense for images, audios and videos you want to send manually to another software or keep locally.
Unlike download for local editing, downloading copy of content does not prevent other users to do the same, nor it leaves traces in the database.
The download functionality is available in some listings. You can use either download icon (marked on the following screenshot), or click the item graphics on the preview pane (if any), or select the Download option in the right-click pop-up menu (since 1.4.1522.x) - that allows you to download more items at once.
Download icon
When you click the icon, a dialog box is displayed where you need to select where the item will be downloaded. The dialog displayed depends on your default Web browser. On the following screenshot, it's Internet Explorer:
Download option in the right-click menu
It is available on Wires and Editorial navigators on the Articles and Pages main tabs, and on the Wires and Editorial listing on the Shell main tab. Use it for images, audios and videos. It gets disabled for articles and stories - you cannot download these items. In a mixed selection, that contains also stories/articles, those are silently skipped.
On the first access, you are prompted to select the download folder. After the first successful download, the folder is stored as your personal preference and you are not prompted any more. To change the folder, press and hold SHIFT while clicking the Download option - it will display the folder selection dialog box.
Note: some files may not have all necessary data for download - e.g. a title or extensions may be empty. In that case, software attempts to find the best solution and informs you what it did.
Dummy images cannot be downloaded.
