You can activate the auto-closing of the article tree on opening of an article element. It is a per-user preference.

Under Edit menu, click Preferences, then on the Extra tab, Various sub-tab, select Auto-Close Tree on Element Opening.

This may be useful to unclutter workspace automatically.
