Although GN4 maintenance procedures are highly automated, you are still required to monitor the system and perform a series of controls, on daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Routines explained herein relate to Microsoft Windows server operating system.

The system maintenance is subject of customizing, and it depends on the actual system layout and complexity. The items, listed in this chapter, are only an example. You may want to establish your own practices, stricter or looser than ones explained here.

The system maintenance is carried out by IT staff.

The maintenance is performed on the servers (except fpr the maintenance tasks related to GN4 workstations). Remote access can be used for all server maintenance tasks.

The maintenance operators are supposed to be familiar with server OS and - for GN4 related maintenance tasks - with GN4 concepts and work flow.

Note: to avoid any confusion, bear in mind that the maintenance, as explained in this chapter, does not include any system reconfiguring or customizing, e.g. adding or modifying typographical formats or permissions, changing work flow structure and similar. Such tasks are explained under Configuring GN4.
