What you should know before you begin to learn about GN4?

GN4 Help readers are required to meet the following prerequisites:

All readers

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows interface, including the ability to: use mouse, use Windows Explorer, start an application, open, close, minimize, maximize, and move windows and switch between applications and tasks.

Familiarity with standard Web browsers, and working knowledge of the Web help, including the ability to retrieve topics, use links, the table of contents and full-text search.

Working knowledge of the Windows Help System, including the ability to retrieve topics, use links, the table of contents and full-text search.

General familiarity with newsroom methods and organization, especially regarding work flow, slugging, workgroup based security, page design, typography, Web publishing etc.

Additional requirements for GN4 Systems Administrators, IT and support staff

Knowledge of basic computer hardware components; knowledge of major networking concepts, including client, server, local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), network adapter card, driver, protocol, and network operating system.

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows administration on servers, including the ability to: create users, set-up the network configuration, understand domain controller requirements, set-up printers and carry out other administration tasks.

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows SQL Server administration, including the ability to: create databases, create and monitor scheduled jobs and carry out other administration tasks.

Working knowledge of the Microsoft IIS administration.

Working knowledge of XML and XSL.

Working knowledge of the VB.NET programming and using Visual Studio.

If you do not meet the above prerequisites, we recommended you to get trained for the relevant areas.
