The simplest way to find information in the GN4 Web help is to use the full-text search.
Use the quick search box
Use the quick search box for one-click searches. Enter the search term and then press the 8 key. The Search tab is automatically displayed with the results. The results locate topics wherever the search term appears in the text. The results are ordered by the relevance score, that depends on the number of occurrences of the search term and the positions of the search term in the found topic
If a query with a single word returns too many hits, narrow the search by adding more words to the query.
Default partial search
When searching for a single word, have in mind that a word in English language can have many forms, e.g. bounce, bouncing, bounced, bounces etc, and that search is by default partial, therefore, bounce acts as bounce* finding the topics that contain bounce, bounced and bounces, but not the topics that contains only bouncing.
Should you want to find also bouncing, then enter bounc.
Searching for exact word
To search for exact word, enclose the word in double quotes. "bounce" finds only the topics that contain bounce, and not the ones that contain bounces and bounces. However, unlike as in CHM help, auto-crop finds only the topics that contain auto-crop, and not the ones that contain auto or crop.
Searching for phrases
The real searching for phrases is not supported. But, if you search, by example, for three words, e.g. several known limitations, the top results will show the topics that contain all three words:
Full-text search differences between Web help and CHM help
The CHM help uses for the full-text search the built-in Microsoft Windows algorithm, while the Web help uses the mini version of the Zoom indexer, therefore, the list and the order of the search results are unavoidably different.
Two search engines treat the relevance/rank in a different way, therefore, some results may appear on top in the full-text search results of the CHM help, but somewhere in the middle in the full-text search results of the Web help.
Moreover, the Web help may display less results than CHM help.
On the other hand, Web help displays a short summary, the number of terms matched, the relevance score (the highest is better) and the last editing date, while more spartan CHM help results display only a title, location (always GN4 help) and the rank number (the lowest is better).
You can sort the Web help full-text search results by date or relevance, but in the CHM help, the rank is the only choice.
