Getting editorial holes

When analyzing the pages and editions, write down the dimensions and the type of every editorial hole.

You can get the editorial hole dimensions by selecting all the editorial content on the original page, and then reading the overall width and height.

ATTENTION: often, on the original pages made in a non-GN4 software, the datelines are on the same layer as the editorial content. But, in GN4 you will prefer to put the datelines on a master in the top page margin, and to adjust the top page margin to the exact start of the editorial content. See About datelines and numbering for further information.

In such case, measure the editorial hole dimensions without selecting the dateline.

Some examples:

A horizontal split editorial hole

autopage_prep008The dimensions of the editorial hole on this example are 751pt by 460pt, excluded the dateline. The bottom ads can be one or more, but all have to have the same height, and they have to spread from the left to the right margin.

About the bottom gap between editorial content and ads

It is expected that the distance between the bottom of the editorial content and the top of the ads must be less or equal to 40pt.

Should it be more than 40pt, you need to add a transparent box under the shape in the GN4 object library, making it a part of the logical group.

About starting and ending position of the editorial content

It is expected that the editorial content starts in the first page column and that it extends to the right page margin.

Note about variations of ads height

Should you expect the different ads height, you need to create a list of editorial holes for each such height.
