Let's assume you want to publish the same editorial content on the front pages in the North and South edition. Also, you want to variate some ads. Other ads are shared between editions.
To achieve it, create three layers for both pages: one editorial layer and two advertisement layers. Name them as you want, but in this example, we named them Ed layer, Ads layer 1, Ads layer 2.
1.Put the editorial content on the Ed layer 1 of the North edition. Its content appears as the same in both editions.
2.Put the ads, common for both editions, on the Ads layer 1. Remove the layer with the same name on the front page in the South edition. Link the common layer to that page. Its content appears as the same in both editions.
3.Put the ads, specific for the North edition, on the Ads layer 2 of that edition. Put the ads content, specific for the South edition, on the Ads layer 2 of that edition. The content is different, but it has to cover the same area in both editions.
Linked layers are shown in red color, while replaced layers are shown in orange color.
