Important: unlinking article or its element from page normally does not remove elements from the article. It only removes the links between elements and page and removes the geometry from article elements.

Unlink entire article from page and remove the geometry from it

On the Pages main tab in Fred4, select an article, and then do one of the following:

Click the Unlink icon 21_unlink_16 in the toolbox

On the Articles menu,  point to Link and then click Unlink.

The unlinked layout remains on the page. Save the page.

Other unlinking methods

To unlink entire article from page but keep the geometry in it, select it and then on then on the Articles menu, point to Link, and then click Unlink and keep geometry.

To unlink single frame from page, select it and then click the Unlink icon 21_unlink_16 in the toolbox, or on the Articles menu,  point to Link and then click Unlink.

Unlink elements, adjusting layout automatically

Use the toolbar with six icons. Every icon corresponds to an element: kicker, head, subhead, intro, pullquote, image.

articlestoolbar

From left: kicker, head, subhead, intro, pullquote, image.

Select the element you want to remove, and then hold ALT while clicking the icon of the element. The element is deleted, and the article layout adjusted to fill the hole.

When you remove kicker, the headline frame moves up to fill the space of the kicker frame. The body frames are made higher, so the total area, covered by the article, remains the same.

When you remove subhead, body frames move up and are made higher.

Intro, pull quote and image with caption are just deleted. As they use to wrap the body legs, after removing, the body legs do not wrap anymore.

To unlink elements, adjusting layout manually

Just delete element. Fill the hole by moving other elements manually.
