Two default layer types are Editorial and Advertisement. Editorial type is used for editorial layers. Advertisement type is used for ads layers.

By means of layer type, the advertisement import module "knows" on which layer it should import advertisement.

You can also add custom layer types in the Ed4Admin under Editorial objects > Layer types.
