The Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) files can be imported to GN4 through the same methods explained in Methods of importing graphics. It creates an EPS with a TIFF or PICT preview.

The PDF import handles only single page Pdf files. Multi-page PDF files are not supported.

The imported PDF can be converted from RGB to CMYK, using ICC profiles. In the Parameter set, choose preferred ICC profile.

Topic imports RGB and/or CMYK PDF files and generates a low resolution always in CMYK.

During import, a pre-flight checking is performed for the fonts included in the PDF files. The 14 default system fonts are excluded from the check.

About quality of PDF preview

The quality of PDF preview depends on the preview size and pixels. The standard 400px preview may be insufficient.

Since the version 2.0, the quality of the PDF preview has been raised to 1400px.

(GN4-1897: Better preview for PDF files. Modified the wf_importActivityData to call a different workflow for generating the preview of PDF files. The new workflow, that needs to be imported to existing GN4 system after upgrade, named wf_createPreviewPDF, defines a default preview of 1400px.)
