For more efficient frames drawing methods see Summary of methods to create an article layout.

Draw an object

Move the pointer of the mouse on the page. Click where you want to start the object. Drag until the selection rectangle reaches the final desired dimension, and then release the button.

Note: the horizontal rules are always drawn on top border of the selection rectangle, while vertical rules are drawn on the left border. The constrained objects, such as circles and squares are based on the width of the selection rather than height.

Abort drawing during drag

Hit Esc key.

Note: when you click a tool, the main menu selections and other operations are suspended until you finish drawing. To exit from drawing mode or press Escape, or click the normal tool 182_cursor_16.

Display menu of additional objects

Right-click the object icon on the toolbar, or hold SHIFT and then click.
