PROBLEM

SOLUTION

REASONS AND COMMENTS

When you try to link an article to a page, you get the "One or more layers the text is connected to are not checked-out (ids: 2946545)" message.

See also Fixing linking problems.

Open the specified page and check-out the page layer.

See also Fixing linking problems.

This happens if the article is already linked to another page, but its page layer is not checked-out by you.

Note: this happens when you use the Link icon.

When you try to link an article to a page, you get the "Copy article" dialog box instead of linking.

copyarticle2

Do what you want.

This happens when you drag over another page an article already linked to a page in another edition - which is not permitted.

When you try to link an article to a page, you get the "The dragged article is already linked to a page in the same edition, link a copy?" message.

Do what you want.

In order to create a jump instead of linking a copy, click the Link icon.

This happens when you drag over another page an article already linked to another page.

When you try to link an article to a page, you get the "Geometry is in use by xxxx" message, although the user 'xxx' has nothing to do with the article.

See the script ToggleArtGeometry or the native command Fred.TxtToggleCheck.

The geometry of a text element gets locked when you link or modify the element's geometry on a page, and gets released when you unlink it, or save the page. A crash of Fred4 or other irregularity may cause geometry to remain locked.

When you try to link another frame to an article element, Fred4 warns you that it's not possible to have more than one element of that kind.

Modify the GN4.XSD schema for that element, and remove typeLink="single" statement from the <gs:_objectType section of the element's definition.

If the current frame's type cannot be linked to multiple frames (typeLink='single'), Fred4 selects any not-yet-linked text element of the same type of the current article - or adds a new element, if XML schema allows more elements of the that kind.

When you try to link an article to frames on page, the formats of the frames are not applied to the article.

1/ See When linking, keep local formats.

2/ Apply formats to the frames by means of F2 or the Formats toolbar, and then save.

1/ Your preferences as not set correctly

2/ The frame Tool has no formats, or the formats are invalid.
