When splitting frames, you can turn on the automatic vertical rules between split frames.

To enable automatic rules for headline and columns split, on the Options menu, click Custom preferences, and then on the Headlines & Margins tab, select Add rules when splitting.

To enable automatic rules when splitting by dialog box, select Rules.

The automatic rules are drawn in the default weight for vertical rules (Options > Preferences > Rules weight setup> Vert. rules).
