You may want to zoom the current selected objects to the size of the window itself, to be able to view the details of selected objects.

Do either of the following:

•Press CTRL+single quote

•On the View menu, point to Zoom, and then select Fit to selection.

While the selection is zoomed, press ALT and then drag in any direction to scroll the screen without changing the zoom percentage. See also Change zoom by keys in small steps and Change zoom by mouse wheel in small steps.
