More than one user can open the same page and work on it. GN4 controls which user is doing what, and saves changes accordingly.
Opening pages and layers
Users can open pages in Fred4 in two modes: for editing (read-write), or for viewing (read-only).
Only one user can open a page for editing. Typically, that's the first user who attempts to open a page. If you are the first user, all other users who attempt to open the same page for editing while you are still holding that page opened for editing, will automatically open it for viewing. This is called "forced opening for viewing".
Any number of users can simultaneously open a page for viewing.
The default opening mode is "for editing", but it also depends on the page status. If no other user is currently editing the page, you can open it for editing.
When you open a page for editing, by default, all unlocked and layers are opened for editing as well, unless your preferences (Edit > Preferences > Automatically check-out layers when opening pages) are set not to open layers automatically, and unless other users do not edit them.
When you open a page for viewing, you cannot check out any layers, but you can still edit page properties.
