You can edit a master in two places in Fred4: on the Editions main tab, or on the Masters navigator of the Pages main tab.
Moreover, you can edit master properties (dimensions, name, kind, type, format for local texts etc) and/or add design elements on the master, e.g. folio, fixed standing art, fixed text, etc.
On the Editions main tab you can edit only master properties, and only in a new, unsaved edition. Should you need to edit masters any time later, or to add design elements, edit it on the Masters navigator of the Pages main tab.
1.Run Fred4, open the Editions main tab, open an edition, and then click on the list of masters to select a master. 2.Use the Master data palette to change the master name, write an optional description, select the kind (single or double page), and the type (generic, automatic left, automatic right, automatic double), as well as format for local texts. 3.Use the Geometry data palette, to select a preset (if any suitable), or to select User defined, and then to specify all layout data. Note: this won't work if you already saved the edition. |

Note: don't put articles on the masters. Note Since the version 2.1, the measurement units of the Geometry Data dialog on the Pages main tab, for all fields but the Modules height and gutter, are read from the preferences on the Pages main tab in Fred, and the units for the Modules height and gutter are read from the preferences on the Editions main tab in Fred. It allows you, for example, to use mm for page dimensions and pt for module height. |
