Introduction to sharing editorial content

Shared layers are typically used for so called 'geographical' or 'zoned' (North, South, West, etc) editions within one title.

In such editions some pages in different zones share the same (or part of) editorial content, but have different ads.

This avoids duplicating of common editorial content.

The following illustration shows two pages (Page 1 Zone 1 and Page 6 Zone 2) in two different zones (Zone 1 and Zone 2) of one title. Content marked with "S" and in blue color is the editorial content, shared between both pages - so it's not duplicated, but "linked" twice. Content marked with "S" and in red color is the advertising content, shared between both pages. Content marked with "Z" in various colors is local for each page.

Shared and local content can be anything: text, images, advertising - there are no limitations on the content type.

Editions with a shared content have particular structure. First, they have to belong to the same title. Then, every page needs to have more page layers:

One page layer is used for the local - non shared editorial content.

Another layer is used for the shared editorial content.

Another layer is used for local ads.

One more layer is used for national ads.

So, if you want to have combination of shared/non shared editorial and shared/non shared advertising, you will need four layers by page.

Note

Some pages may be without ads, and just with local content. Such pages require less layers, perhaps only one or two. But, as unused layers are not wasting too much space, for simplicity you can create all pages with all specified layers.

You may keep all zones in a single edition, or create a separate edition for each zone. However, the editions must be in the same title.
