Task: Insert breaks, symbols, quotes, blank lines and spaces

Insert a break

Click where you want to insert break, and then do one of the following:

To insert a paragraph break, press ENTER.

To insert a line break, press SHIFT+ENTER.

To insert a column break, press CTRL+ENTER.

Join paragraphs

For the sake of this explanation, the paragraph A is above the paragraph B. Click the beginning of paragraph B and then press BACKSPACE or click at the end of the paragraph A and then press DELETE.

Insert characters from map

Click where you want to insert a character. On the Type  menu, point to Insert Special Character, point to Symbols, and then click Symbol From Table, or press SHIFT+F10. Double click a character in the map.

Insert curly and other quotes

Press the key for double or single quote: curly quotes are inserted automatically.

Insert blank lines in text

Ensure that in your preferences (Edit > Preferences > Extra > General ) Allow Blank Lines… is selected. If so, press 8 to create a blank line.

Insert spaces in text

Press the SPACEBAR. To insert special spaces, on the Type menu, point to Insert White Space, point to Spaces, and then select what you want.
