It is recommended, on the first access to the Pages main tab in Fred4, to configure the tracking mode.

The tracking mode allows you to review the status of the page elements with a single click. See Tracking mode for details.

Default: undefined.

Recommended: enter the appropriate values.

To configure tracking mode on the Pages main tab

1.On the Edit menu of the Pages main tab, while not editing text, click Preferences.

2.Click the Information tab.

3.Under Text frames, First, insert variables to be displayed in the first text frame linked to an article. Example: &n &w displays the article name and the workstate.

4.Under Text frame, Others, insert variables to be displayed in all other frames, linked to the same element. Typically, specify just the name variable &n

5.Under Images, insert variables to be displayed over image boxes, e.g. &n &w &b.

6.Click the Video font to select the font and the type size for labels display.

7.Click the ? button to display a reminder about the variable names.

Click to toggle graphic size

This is per-user preference.

About available variables

The list of available variables contains 11 variables for text content and 14 variables for images/ads. The most frequently used are: &n, &w, &b, &o, &N.

To list the available variables, click the [?] button on the dialog box.

Variables and case sensitivity

The variable names are case sensitive. Therefore, &n and &N are different variables.

Making info more readable by adding labels and new lines

You can add labels as you wish. Example: Name: &n displays the Name: label before the item name. However, do not create too long labels, as in the distant zooms the display may become cluttered.

You can split tracking lines by pressing Enter.

Making info more readable by changing font

Choose the font and the type size carefully, testing it on different page zooms.
