Articles must reside in a folder that you will select on the Automated page make-up dialog box. In the folder, Fred will expect to exist an appropriate number of unlinked articles.

Already linked articles, and articles residing in other folders, will be ignored by the automated page make-up.

On the previous screenshot, the first five articles are linked, and therefore, will be ignored with any further session of the automated page make-up on that folder.
