There are following types of licenses:
•Named licenses: Allow access to Web browser for the specified user names, but not to run any GN4 client application.
Example: should you need to provide access to GN4 for users Jack, Jim and John, you need 3 named user licenses. The user Tom won't be able to connect to GN4 server even if Jack is not connected, as Tom's name does not belong to named logins.
Note: Since GN4 is based on "named users", you are not supposed to import all the domain users in the GN4 database, but only those users who will effectively use GN4.
Note: GN4 default users Administrator and Guest are counted as named licenses, affecting in that way the total number of allowed named users. You may safely convert Guest in a concurrent license.
•Concurrent licenses: It is the maximum number of concurrent users who can connect to the system. The license is consumed by both client and web applications.
•Public licenses: The public license is intended for the searching and the displaying data only. Unlike the concurrent, the public license has not a maximum number limit. However, it comes with limitations. A public license cannot access to clients, i4 and GNPortal. It can access only to a limited set of the do.ashx REST methods. The allowed REST methods are: Login, Logout, Audit, Data, Feed, Image, Help, Objs, Report, Search, Temp File (non POST), Tree, Update Profile, Who. More methods can be unlocked in future and made available. A method, called Update Profile in the REST interface allows to modify the metadata of the current user and it is the only update allowed to a public login. The Update Profile method accepts the POSTed xml of the current user (<gn4:user>).
