Style libraries are constitutive elements of GNML formats. They contain user-defined tags and styles, and make them available to formats.

Libraries of GNML styles are collections of user defined GNML tags and GNML styles.

The GNML libraries of styles are created in the EdAdmin4. The libraries are created and edited during the installation period or later. The GNML libraries of styles are organized in GNML formats.

The libraries of GNML styles are available in a text, only if the format, that contains them, is assigned to a text.

Types

Although all the GNML libraries of styles have the same physical structure, they may be classified as:

Default library J: contains some title-wide custom tags/styles, used to construct GNML styles in other libraries. It shall be assigned to each format.

Headline libraries: contain GNML styles for headline formatting, e.g. kicker, main head, subhead, intro and similar. Typically, a headline library shall be assigned to each standard editorial headline format. An exception are single element headlines, e.g. with no kicker or subhead, or where headline elements flow each one in separate frame. In such case, it is convenient to use format defaults instead of styles.

Body libraries: contain styles for body text, bylines, credits, column heads and other. A body library shall be assigned to each standard editorial body format.

Common style libraries for non-editorial purposes: Common style libraries contain all GNML styles to format the special elements, such as financial and sport tables, stock market exchange, weather report, TV programme and other. Common styles library shall be assigned to non-editorial formats.
