Change parameters in variable styles

This topic applied to the variable (parametric) styles.

Changing parameter type

If a variable style was never applied on text: Just do it.

If a variable style was applied on text and it is not possible to replace all occurencesDon't do it. All the stories which contain original tag will not be justifiable any more, i.e. will produce a justification error on each attempt of text justification. Furthermore, opening a page which contains linked stories, which in turn contain tags with old names, the justification errors will appear for each such text.

Adding more parameters

If a variable style was never applied on text: Just do it.

If a variable style was applied on text and it is not possible to replace all occurences: It'll work well only if new parameters are of the type which can accept default value as 0. For example, this is the case for indents, but not for type size and leading.

Removing some pameteters

If a variable style was never applied on text: Just do it.

If a variable style was applied on text and it is not possible to replace all occurences: Don't do it. All the stories which contain original tag will not be justifiable any more, i.e. will produce a justification error on each attempt of text justification. Furthermore, opening a page which contains linked stories, which in turn contain tags with old names, the justification errors will appear for each such text.

Reordering parameters

If a variable style was never applied on text: Just do it.

If a variable style was applied on text and it is not possible to replace all occurrences: Don't do it. All the stories which contain original tag will not be justifiable any more, i.e. will produce a justification error on each attempt of text justification. Furthermore, opening a page which contains linked stories, which in turn contain tags with old names, the justification errors will appear for each such text.
