When you break the link between text and its paragraph style, by expanding the style, text retains its current formatting. However, future changes to that style will not be reflected in the text that was separated from the style.
Select the text that is marked with the style that you want to break from.
On the Type menu, point to Paragraph, and then click Expand Paragraph Style, or on the Type menu, point to Character, and then click Expand Character Style.
Tags remain in the text, formatting does not change, but no style is assigned to that text anymore.
