GN4 users share content between Ted4 and Fred4. Content can be created, opened, reviewed and edited in both Ted4 and Fred4 (except pages, that can be edited only in Fred4).

Ted4 and Fred4 work on the same database, thus no export of text and graphics is required, neither those have to be stored in a file system.

An article is always available to Ted4 users who will write and edit the content, assuming it resides in a folder that is accessible to the user. The links of article elements to text frames on a page or image boxes are maintained throughout the workflow.

When users work on an article linked to a Fred4's page, changes to the associated layout or content are immediately visible to all users involved in the workflow for that article. When users work on such article in Ted4, the changes on content are immediately visible to all users of Fred4's page.

Multiple Ted4 or Fred4 users can open the same page or article simultaneously. However, only one user at a time can edit a specific article element or page element. Others are viewing such element on a read-only basis. Anyway, more users can edit the content linked to the same article, as long as they're editing different elements. For example, an user can edit body text, while another user is editing headline, and the third user is editing the image, while the fourth user is editing the image caption. The user who is editing an article element can share his or her work with other users by updating the data in the database; other users can see the changes if they refresh their content, opened as read-only, but cannot make changes to the element until is it closed (checked back in). This system prevents users from overwriting each other’s work.
