You may want to have the Pages navigator on the Pages main tab synced with the current page or not.

An example: you have opened a page of the edition X, and then, on the Pages navigator you displayed pages of the edition Y. If the Sync navigator with the current page is ticked, when you open another page of the edition X, the Pages navigator will change and refresh with the list of pages of the edition X. Moreover, when you just close a page of the edition X, the Pages navigator will change and refresh with the list of pages of the edition X and not anymore of the edition Y.

Untick Sync navigator with the current page to keep the navigator displaying what you selected, independently of the current page.

On the Opening subtab of the Extra tab on the Preferences dialog box, untick the Sync navigator with the current page. By default it is ticked.
