Use the Paragraph Spacing and Area Breaks palette (short: Spc) to identify or change the following properties of the current paragraph or of all the highlighted paragraphs:

•New area: Forced jump to the next column. Set it for the first body paragraph, in stories where the body and headline are the same "file".

•Word spacing - min: Minimum approved distance between words in justified lines. Must be smaller than med and max.

•Word spacing - max: Maximum approved distance between words in justified lines. Must be greater than med and min.

•Word spacing - med: Distance between words in lines aligned left, right, or centered. Must be smaller than max and greater than min.

•Unbreakable lines, Starting: Number of lines at the beginning of a paragraph, forcibly indivisible*

•Unbreakable lines, Ending: Number of lines at the end of a paragraph, forcibly indivisible*

•Keep with next: Make current paragraph indivisible with the next one.*

* These setting change the text flow, so either empty lines on top or on bottom, or excessive paragraph distances may appear in your columns.
