IMPORTANT WARNINGS RELATED TO GN4 SERVERS

FAILING TO RESPECT THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS
MAY BRING YOUR SYSTEM TO A HALT!

IMPORTANT: The following applies on all the servers used by the GN4 system, and to all the staff, either Miles 33 or customer's, that installs the software of any kind, Windows updates, or changes the network conditions that may affect the GN4 servers.

BEFORE DOING ANY OF LISTED OPERATIONS ON GN4 SERVERS OR CLIENTS, contact GN4 support (where?) and wait for the confirmation:

1.Contact us before installing any .NET Framework update or new Windows versions, not recommended or approved by Miles 33.

 Note about the Framework 4.6

This is an important notice. There is an incompatibility issue with the Framework, Version 4.6 release of the Microsoft .Net. Install the version 4.6.1 instead.

2.Contact us before installing Windows updates not recommended by Miles 33: we'll let you have the list of "dangerous" Windows updates that may disrupt GN4 operations. See "Dangerous" Windows updates. See also BREAKING NEWS WARNINGS, Note: the prerequisite for this is, of course, to disable automatic updated on all the servers related to GN4.

3.Contact us before installing any 3rd party software on any of GN4 servers, and in particular an anti-virus software. That is because 3rd party software can disrupt the GN4 operations, for example, by stealing predefined TCP ports or in other ways. This applies to the backup software, the antivirus software, the communication software, etc. The anti-virus software can slow down or break the GN4 operations, by locking files when checking them, or prevent ClickOnce to work at all. See the list of the folders that have to be excluded from the checking by antivirus software.

4.Contact us before moving GN4 servers on another router or switch or subnet. Have in mind that the IIS and database servers must be on the same subnet, possibly on the fastest network and isolated of the other network traffic. Putting the IIS and database servers on the different subnets, on WAN or on busy network, can cause serious slowdowns of the GN4 system.

5.Contact us before deleting or renaming server domain users and administrators, or changing passwords. The server administrator sometimes may be used as the IIS user, or as a service user, and changing its credentials may cause some GN4 services or operations to fail.

6.Contact us before deleting or renaming folders, as some folders are reserved. Take a look to the list of reserved folders and do not delete or rename those.

7.Contact us before deleting or renaming standard GN4 groups and users.
