A secondary system can deliver the various level of efficiency.
Hot secondary system
The software components are installed and configured on both primary and secondary GN4systems. The software components on the secondary system are up but will not process data or requests.
Data is mirrored in near real time and both systems will have identical data. Data replication is typically done through the software’s capabilities.
This generally provides a recovery time of a few seconds.
This solution may require more Microsoft Windows, Microsoft SQL server and Miles33 related licenses and increase the cost of the entire system. It may also require more bandwidth, or even a dedicated line for the data replication.
Moreover, this solution may require a dedicated software to provide the failover and replication.
Warm secondary system
The software components are installed and configured on both primary and secondary system. The secondary system is up and running on the level of the operating system, but the GN4 related functionalities are turned off. Only in the case of a failure on the primary system, the software components are started on the secondary system. This process is usually automated using a batch of the custom scripts.
Data is regularly replicated to secondary system but not in real time.
This generally provides a recovery time of a few minutes (except for reindexing and full-text search that may require several hours to become available again).
This solution may require more Microsoft Windows licenses, but not more Microsoft SQL server or Miles33 related licenses and therefore the cost increase is less.
