Should volumes folder be deleted accidentally by a manual action, the system gets heavily corrupted and it will stop to work.

There's no provision for dynamic catch-up and store new items in database instead in missing volumes folders.

Volumes MUST exist as there are system items that always reside in volumes, while some other data may reside either in database or in file system, however, the switching is not dynamic.
