Fonts licensing depends on the type foundry policy. For your convenience, and to give you a general idea, here's a sample of a font licensing FAQ.
My company has several hundred employees. How can I purchase XXX typefaces to cover everyone?
Each XXX typeface comes with a 5-computer license. Additional licenses can be purchased to provide proper licenses for all users. XXX offers cost-effective site licenses that fit any company’s needs.
My company is a large, multinational corporation with offices in several cities in YYY, as well as several countries around the world. What purchase options does XXX offer multinationals?
For large companies with multiple sites, XXX offers corporate licenses with unlimited use of licensed typefaces. All corporate licenses offer companies the opportunity to distribute typefaces freely throughout all of its divisions or departments at greatly reduced rates.
My company distributes documents worldwide. All the art is created in the YYY and then sent to each location for printing. Can I send the typefaces to each office for printing?
The answer depends on the kind of license your company has purchased. You may not install typefaces on more computers than your license allows. Corporate licenses are often the most economical solution for multi-site companies.
We send our files to a service bureau for final output. Is it legal for us to provide the service bureau with typefaces we use?
No. Although this has become a common practice, typefaces are licensed for use only within a single company. You may provide your service provider with copies of your XXX typefaces only if the service provider has already purchased a license for those typefaces. (Supplying font files with a print job ensures that the client’s version of the font is used for final output.) If your service bureau does not have a license for specifc typefaces, you may only supply a PostScript file containing the fonts.
Our company wants to use XXX typefaces in the electronic version of our employee newsletter. Can we distribute this electronic publication to all of our employees?
You may distribute a document that contains XXX typefaces among all of your employees only if your license permits. If your company does not own a site license or a corporate license, you need to convert the newsletter’s electronic file into a read-only portable format, such as Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF), and distribute the resulting file (which does not require the original typefaces for display or printing) among your employees.
Can my company install an XXX typeface on more than 5 computers as long as we use only 5 computers or less at a time?
No. XXX’s license agreement allows you to install a typeface on as many as 5 computers; no more. If you need to install a typeface on more than 5 computers, you can upgrade to a site license or a corporate license.
I sometimes do company work at home, can I use copies of XXX typefaces on my home computer?
Yes, you may, but your home computer counts as one of the five computers on which you’re allowed to install an XXX typeface.
