Folder and versioning

You may want to enable content versioning on specific or on all folders that store content.

In other words, you expect that every time someone changes content, a previous version gets automatically created.

This can be achieved in two ways:

If you want to have the same versioning strategy in all folders, you can enable default versioning

If you want to differentiate versioning by folders (so have different versioning strategies depending on folders where the content reside), you need to create a versioning rule and assign folders to a partition for which you enabled a versioning rule

On the figure above, for all the folders assigned to the partDefault partition, we enabled the explicit save versioning rule. This means that for all the content in the folders assigned to that partition, the software will create a new version on every explicit save (CTRL+S or File > Save).

Notes

You cannot set this attribute on an individual folder, but only through a partition.

As you can assign only one partition to a folder, as as you may need to differentiate some folders by various settings (quota, expiration rule, versioning rule, extend spike), you may need to create more partDefault partitions, with all the combinations of the four settings: that may require at least 24 partitions or more.
