Zones are used by newspapers who publish zoned editions, e.g. North, South, where pages have the same editorial contents but the different advertisement. The zoning is based on multiple page layers, and it provides no copying of editorial contents takes place: there is only one copy of each story for all the zones (to handle the corrections easier and faster: if an error is found, it is corrected on one place only, in the original). Also, the shared stories and images are available in all zones even while the first zone page is still in editing. Each title may have different zones. Zones are optional.

When planning zone names, consider that they appear in various dialog boxes in the alphabethic order and not in the order of creation or importance. Names may be changed later without any consequences except the order of appearance in dialog boxes.

Example

The 2nd page of the 'North' zone edition shares the same editorial contents with the 2nd page of the "South" zone,  but the ad at the bottom of the page for 'North' is a pub advert, while the same space in 'South' zone is taken by two smaller ads of car resellers. Let's suppose 'North' is made before the 'South'. The 'North'  2nd page has two layers: editorial and ads. The editorial layer is 'linked' to the 'South' 2nd page, but that page has own ads layer . Therefore, while a paginator is working on either editorial layer (of the 'North' or 'South' zone), the page contents is made for both pages at the same time.
