Using placeholders to design pages

When your final text and graphics are available, you can simply drag them to a page; Fred4 can automatically create frames when you import them (hold SHIFT when dragging on page an unlinked article without local geometry), or you can link them to existing frames (select all frames and then drag article over them).

However, when you don’t have the content yet or you want to book the design before adding text and graphics, you can use frames as placeholders.

Do one of the following:

Draw text frames using the Frame tool fred_icon_frame, and graphics frames using the image tool fred_icon_picturetool. Note: you cannot link empty text frames together unless creating an article and linking it to frames.

Draw empty shapes using drawing tools. When you’re ready to start defining areas for text and graphics, redefine the placeholders for either text or graphics.
