Description |
True Type or Open Type font files |
TTF OTF |
True Type and Open Type font files with TTF or OTF extension contain font graphics, font metric and kerning pairs. These fonts should be installed on each PC workstation. TTF and OTF fonts may be used to generate global GN font metric files. |
Type I font files (printer font bitmaps) |
PFB |
Type I font files with PFB extension contain font graphics for all the characters in the font. These fonts are automatically stored in GN4 database during import. |
Type I font metrics (Adobe font metrics) |
AFM |
Type I font files with AFM extension contain font metrics and kerning tables for all the characters in the font. These files are used by GN4 when importing font. AFM fonts are not used in production time, but only to generate global GN font metric files. |
Type I font metrics for printing (Printer font metrics) |
PFM |
Type I font files with PFM extension contain printer font metrics for all the characters in the font. These files have no use in GN4, except for auto-installing fonts on workstations. PFM fonts are not used in production time. |
All the font files must be in PC format (it is different than Macintosh format).
If using Type I font files, provide AFM, PFM and PFB font files. All three formats are required. If the AFM files are missing, you won't be able to import Type I fonts correctly, even if you loaded them in the Fonts applet of the Microsoft Windows.
