Miles 33 offers a wide range of services to prepare for installations:

Site survey standardized questionnaires

On-site analysis of workflow and procedures with advertisement, editorial and production specialists

Preparatory training and workshops - either at the customer site or off-site

Pilot or test systems

Analysis of software requirements in direct contact with software developers

Depending on the complexity of the projects, some or all of these techniques have been used together in the past.

The Site survey questionnaires are a set of targeted questions - in a spreadsheet format - to be completed together by Miles 33 staff and the newspaper staff. They are aimed at gathering specific data to be used for the setup of the system during installation, and to avoid as much as possible surprises. Miles 33 believes that the site survey is an essential component for a smooth installation.

On-site analysis takes place over a multi-day period (5 to 15), and involves a series of meetings between a Miles 33 specialist (editorial or advertisement) with the newspaper staff. Miles 33 produces a report based on the visit, detailing the workflow and procedures in use, recommendations for installation and configuration, software and integration requirements and eventually recommended changes in the existing procedures.

Workshops or pilot systems are used to give hands-on experience to the newspaper staff, and at the same time allow a better understanding of how to apply Miles 33's technologies to the specific environment of the customer.

When surveys, on-site visits or pilot systems highlight special software requirements not covered by the available functionalities, Miles 33 staff - including developers - will discuss these requirements with the customer's staff to reach a mutually agreed upon set of specifications.  These specifications are used to develop the necessary software changes - that are then incorporated into the standard version of the software. Miles 33 does not develop custom versions of its software specific only to one customer, and great care is used when writing the specifications to ensure that the new functionalities are of broad usefulness, and user-configurable, as much as possible.
