Enable and configure auto-save of pages

It is recommended, on the first access to the Pages main tab in Fred4, to enable and configure the auto-save of changes on a page.

The auto-save saves automatically the changes of page under specified conditions.

By default auto-save is not enabled. When you enable it, the default value for interval is 20.

To enable and configure auto-save

1.On the Edit menu of the Pages main tab, while you are not editing text on page, click Preferences.

2.Under Autosave, tick Enabled.

3.On Changes between saves specify the interval.

Notes

Pages can be saved also automatically after any defined number of changes, but not in a time interval.

Auto-save doesn't affect unmodified pages.

The default auto-save value is 20. For performance reasons, it's not recommended to specify much smaller values. The value of 1 (save on every change) can bring your Fred to a halt, especially when over slow connections.

Multiple repeated changes on an object (example: continuous move using cursor keys) are counted as a single change, to avoid too frequent auto-save. Moreover, when the same script operation is performed on a group of "n" objects, it is counted as one single change, for auto save.

About saving preferences in database

When you click OK, the preferences are updated in the memory and applied right-on. GN4 will store the preference in the database when you exit application. Anyway, should your GN4 crash or exit in any other abnormal way, the preference will not be stored in database, and you will have to repeat the previously described steps.

This preference is stored in the Editorial_SystemUserConfig for the securityRef corresponding to the user name. To display that configuration, open EdAdmin4, click Client Applications, expand the search pane in the left sidebar, in the Name enter editorial, and in the securityRef select the name of the user. Double-click the Editorial_SystemUserConfig to open the content. Locate the preference by name.
