You can define the cut rules to be automatically placed around ads during the ads import. The cut rules setting is global and equal for all the ads.

To set the cut rules

1.Click the Cut rules tab on the ads/edition plan import dialog box:

cutrules

2.In Distance from the Add, Horizontal rule, enter the distance between horizontal cut rule and the ad.

3.In Distance from the Add, Vertical rule, enter the distance between vertical cut rule and the ad.

4.In Thickness, enter the weight for the cut rules. The value 0 will disable the drawing of the cut rules.

5.In Grid, enter the grid value to be used for alignment to grid, or 0 to float freely.

6.Select Put rules only outside, if you want to exclude the cut rules between the ads.

7.Select Clip rules between double pages if you want to exclude the cut rules between the ads.

8.In Drop distance factor, select a multiple of the distance between ads to drop the cut rule.

About Drop distance factor

When Fred4 generates cut-rules between imported ads, and the option to drop rules between ads is enabled, two ads are considered 'side-by-side' - and so the cut rule is dropped - when their distance is less than the specified multiple of the distance between ad and cut rule.

Assume the example where the ads are displaced on the page in the way that there's 8.5pt white space between them, and that the value in Distance from the Ad (margin between ads and rules) is 2pt, therefore, the white space between two ads excluding the rules margin is 8.5pt - 2pt - 2pt = 4.5pt.

Therefore:

If you set the Drop distance factor as 5 or more (so larger than 4.5pt), the white space would be considered as "internal" so the rules will not be drawn.

If you set the Drop distance factor as 4 or less (so smaller than 4.5pt), the white space would be considered as "external" so the rules will be drawn.
