Start/end shapes (or more general terminators) are attached to the beginning or the end of rules and appear as part of the rule. The terminators are resized and rotated according to different weight and rotation of the rule to which they are attached.

The terminators do not change the bounding box of the rule itself - thus, to select a rule, you still have to click the rule (and not the terminator).
