A new edition always contains three master pages: Left, Right and Double.
These master pages are marked as default pages, i.e. they will be automatically assigned to new added pages, following a simple rule: the master page marked as left, is automatically assigned to all even-numbered pages; the master page marked as right, is automatically assigned to all odd-numbered pages.
You may want to add more master pages. Usual conditions when you will add such pages are:
1. | Your newspaper has different folios for first pages of sections, and internal pages of sections. |
2. | Your newspaper use variety of page grids, e.g. 6 columns, 7 columns, 8 columns, 5 columns. To simplify page make up, it is recommended to set the most frequently used grid on the default master pages, and to add all other grids as generic master pages. |
3. | You need special markers for some purposes, e.g. to know precisely the page fold position, and similar. Create such masters. |
