Page on opening causes an exception

It may happen that an exception error gets displayed when you open a page on the Pages main tab. This topic explains how to fix the problem if the cause is a known wrong value in the page layer XML.

1.Locate the ID of the page layer containing wrong value. To do this, open the edition on the Editions main tab, and then, on the Edition Pages list, expand the page that gives problems. Click the layer that gives problems. On the Layers list read the ID of the highlighted layer. Note: make sure that the ID column is wide enough to read the entire id number.

2.Open a Command prompt in the folder where you have the GN4 files installed. In the following example, the folder is C:\tera\gn4\rel23\bin, the id number is 2838147, the connection name is rel2.3, the username is john, the password is doe, and the target file to contain layer XML is LAY.XML.

C:\tera\gn4\rel23\bin>cmd4 export -ids 2838147 -srvname rel2.3 -username john -password doe -out lay.xml

1.Open the exported file in Notepad++ and then on the Plugins menu, point to XML Tools, and then click Pretty print (XML Only - with line breaks).

2.Locate the wrong value and replace it with the appropriate value. Note: this requires a good familiarity with the XML structure of the GN4 page layers, or a guidance of Miles 33 support staff.

3.Save the changed XML file.

Open a Command prompt in the folder where you have the GN4 files installed. In the following example, the folder is C:\tera\gn4\rel23\bin, the connection name is rel2.3, the username is john, the password is doe, and the file that contains the fixed layer XML is LAY.XML.

A page in Fred 2.1 would not open, giving an illegal character &#xD3E0 error.

A possible reason can be that an editorial image has an illegal character in its summary attribute. The illegal character was not present in the original summary. Article containing such element won't open either. Use the SQL update to fix the caption.

The Pages main tab in Fred4 can give you the error 5 on opening a page. This may happen because of the wrong import from GN3. For example, this may happen when a color space is wrong: in lowColorUsage and colorUsage you may find cuRGB instead of cuVector.

The error may not appear if your Fred4 is set up to show medium or low resolution of pictures, but only if it has been set up to show the high resolution pictures.
