About format naming

Before you start to create formats for your APM template library objects, take a moment to think about how you will name the formats.

You have multiple choices:

Name the formats as the corresponding styles in InDesign.

For example, the style for the headline of the left article is named in InDesign as PHDL_C4_NEWS_PIC_24.

The possible trouble with such naming is that you typically have no familiarity with such naming convention, and this will make difficult for you to find your way through the list of formats when you create them all.

Name the formats with the basic typographical data

A standard naming could be something as:

NCE Head 23/24 Photo News

where NCE stands for the title, Head stands for the type, 23/24 for the size and leading, Photo News for the content position etc.

The possible trouble with such naming is that you will not know to which original style it refers.

Name the formats with the basic typographical data and original style

Combine the first two methods:

NCE Head 23/24 Photo News PHDL_C4_NEWS_PIC_24

The only trouble with such naming is that the name is quite long, but you can live with it.
